A newborn baby photo session is the perfect way to capture those early fleeting moments with your new arrival. Those first cuddles, scrunched faced yawns, their precious delicate features and tiny toes. I know how quickly this time flies by and how precious these memories become over time.

newborn photography

Beautifully natural newborn photography local to Marlow, Henley, Maidenhead, High Wycombe, Beaconsfield and surrounding areas.

My photography sessions take place in the comfort of your own home, where you and your baby can feel completely relaxed. I feel truly honoured to be invited into new parent's homes and always remain respectful of you and your environment. While I like to have 'shooting time' of up to 1 hour, photoshoots typically last around 2 hours to allow plenty of time for cuddles, feeds and breaks.

During the session, I will firstly focus on your baby to capture close up detail shots. For this, I have a portable set up that includes a posing beanbag, wraps, blankets and optional baby clothing. I do not overly pose your baby (no baskets or buckets here!). The wraps and blankets are there to provide a clean background, alongside comfort for your baby and soft textures to style against their delicate features. I then like to focus on capturing beautiful photos of you and your baby together. I will guide you with natural poses, to ensure you gain a variety of photos and we are always using the best light.

Following the photoshoot, I will individually edit all of your images in my signature style. My edit is warm, natural and flattering. I will lightly retouch images, but not make them look overly edited or clinical in appearance. Examples of what my galleries look like can be seen below:

FAQs

For newborn sessions, I recommend getting in touch 2-3 months before your due date and we will pencil in a tentative date. Once your baby arrives, you’ll just need to reach out so we can book in the final date and time. Newborn sessions often work best at around 3 - 14 days as your baby is likely very sleepy. This allows me to comfortably capture them in those popular dreamy sleepy poses.

when do i book?

I like to have 1 hour of 'shooting time', but a typical newborn session will last approx 2 hours, allowing enough time for feeding, changing and settling. To be able to capture the best photographs, your baby needs to feel calm and relaxed, which is why we don't rush. I aim for sessions to be an enjoyable experience for you all, whilst capturing some special memories along the way.

How long are sessions?

You will receive a digital album with a minimum of 50 images. You can then pick your 10 favourites (package 1) or opt for all images (package 2). Chosen images will then be available for download (high resolution & watermark free), You can print them yourself or purchase professional quality prints and albums via the online shop attached to your gallery.

how many photos do i receive?

Clothing: I will bring a couple of items and, if you are happy for me to do so, your baby will be wrapped up for much of the session. Please feel free to have some clothing options ready or something special for an outfit change. I recommend keeping clothing relatively simple and comfortable. Neutral light colours (white, cream, beige, grey or pastel tones) work best, as they don’t take away from the natural beauty of your baby.

how do i prepare?

Home: Please don't feel the need to clean the entire house! We will likely stick to either your master bedroom or living room and I'm very happy to tidy a little area if we need to create a small space. If you have any floor-to-ceiling windows (eg patio doors, bi-folds or large bedroom windows), these work best as a backdrop and I will likely place myself there for most of the session. Please also have your bed made, perhaps with a neutral quilt or blanket on top.

Baby: Newborns are unpredictable and that’s ok! It’s usually a good idea to try to feed your baby before the session, so they’re sleepy and content. If you need to break to feed, change or have a cuddle, that’s absolutely fine. These moments often add to the beauty of my ‘real life’ storytelling style.

"We are absolutely blown away with the newborn photos Lucy captured of our daughter and us as a family. They are even better than we could ever imagine. Despite having never met before, it felt like catching up with a friend and somehow came out with the most incredible shots! Lucy also turned the pictures around so quickly for us. What a talented photographer - we will be recommending her to everyone!'

BETH & MAX

Where do we start!? We were lucky enough to have Lucy photograph not only our wedding day in 2022, but also our newborn baby this year. Both times she was so personable and friendly. She took the time to understand and get to know us, making us feel completely relaxed. We are absolutely over the moon with how the photographs turned out and will treasure them forever! They really do capture such special times in our lives perfectly. We couldn't recommend her more!
