Emily and Charlie’s spring wedding at Primrose Hill Farm unfolded under clear blue skies, with a perfectly matched colour palette of soft blues, creams and fresh whites carried seamlessly throughout their styling. Here’s a little glimse into Primrose Hill Farm and their picture perfect day!
Set on the Oxfordshire / Warwickshire border, Primrose Hill Farm is a contemporary barn wedding venue surrounded by open countryside and far-reaching rural views. The venue centres around a collection of former farm buildings that have been thoughtfully restored into modern, light filled event spaces – architectural in feel, but still grounded in their rural setting. It’s a venue that balances clean contemporary design with the warmth of the countryside and one that always photographs beautifully as a result.
Emily’s preparations began on site in the Orchard Barn – Primrose Hill’s dedicated, private getting-ready space. The atmosphere was relaxed but full of energy. Music played throughout the morning, with plenty of singing, dancing and laughter as the excitement built. There were a series of beautiful first looks – the first with both Mums and bridesmaids, followed by separate moments with her dad and grandmother. Family and protected time with loved ones was such a key theme throughout their day, starting from morning right through to the dancelfoor.
Charlie arrived in style in a McLaren, alongside the groomsmen and the Dads. with time for a few relaxed portraits before the guests started to arrive.
The ceremony took place inside the Ceremony Barn – a modern, light-filled space designed as a blank canvas for weddings. Guests entered to a string quartet, who also played beautifully as Emily and her bridesmaids walked down the aisle. Charlie’s reaction as he saw her was everything she had hoped for – always a beautiful moment to witness as a photographer. Another memorable moment came with a shared song during the ceremony. This was a lovely surprise for most guests and proof that you don’t need a church setting to have everyone on their feet singing together!
After the ceremony, guests gathered outside for confetti before moving onto the terrace and lawn for a relaxed drinks reception. With uninterrupted Oxfordshire views stretching out behind them, it’s the most beautiful setting for drinks and mingling!
Primrose Hill offers a wide variety of backdrops within a very small radius – architectural barn exteriors, open fields, the orchard and trout pool, as well as sweeping countryside views. Emily & Charlie were keen to not spend too long away from guests, so couples portrait time was intentionally short and sweet. With so many beautiful backdrops close by, just 10 minutes at the end of the drinks reception provided a beautiful selection of photos.
The styling carried the blue, cream and white palette throughout their day – from florals to bridesmaid dresses to stationery and even the cake. Floral arrangements included delphiniums, sweet peas and peonies, bringing softness and seasonality into the modern barn setting.
The Dining Barn is always a standout space, with expansive windows flooding the room with natural light and opening directly onto the terrace. It’s one of my favourite wedding breakfast locations to photograph due to all the natural light and it looked particularly beautiful with the hints of blue throughout.
Emily & Charlie’s entrance into their wedding breakfast set the tone immediately. Personalised tambourines placed at each table setting filled the barn with sound and energy as they walked in. It shifted the atmosphere instantly – it was absolutely electric in there!
As the light softened, guests returned to the terrace for a little croquet, alongside his and hers cocktails. Espresso martini’s for Emily and passionfruit martinis for Charlie! They were blessed with beautiful golden light – always a highlight at Primrose Hill if you’re lucky! We stepped out for 5 minutes again for a few quick photos, to make the most of beautiful golden hour!
From there, the dancefloor opened up with the first dance, immediately followed by a surprise saxophonist brought in by Charlie. This instant shift pulled everyone straight onto the dance floor.
In amongst the expected fun chaos, there were some really special moments on the dancefloor too. Charlie shared a dance with his grandmother – a moment he’d referenced earlier in his speech, having promised her that dance for years. Later, the dance floor held four generations of family together at once – an image that quietly captured the depth of connection that had been present all day.
“Be present. Everyone says it, but it’s true; the day flies by. Take a few quiet moments together to breathe, look around, and take it all in.”
I couldn’t agree more Emily!
