A newborn baby photo session is the perfect way to capture those early fleeting moments with your new arrival. Those first cuddles, scrunched faced yawns, their precious delicate features and tiny toes. I know how quickly this time flies by and I'd love to capture these memories for you.
My photography sessions take place in the comfort of your own home, where you and your baby can feel completely relaxed. I feel truly honoured to be invited into new parent's homes and always remain respectful of you and your environment. While I like to have 'shooting time' of up to 1 hour, photoshoots typically last around 2 hours to allow plenty of time for cuddles, feeds and breaks.
During the session, I will firstly focus on your baby to capture close up detail shots. For this, I have a portable set up that includes a posing beanbag, wraps, blankets and optional baby clothing. If you are happy for me to, I will gently wrap your baby in a couple of soft blankets. I aim for a natural look, therefore I do not overly pose your baby or use props like buckets and baskets. The wraps and blankets are there to provide a clean/ neutral background, alongside comfort for your baby and soft textures to style against their delicate features. After capturing solo photos of your baby, I'll focus on capturing beautiful photos of you and your baby together. I will guide you with natural poses, to ensure you gain a variety of photos and we are always using the best light. I work with natural light, so we will likely spend the majority of your session near your largest windows if possible.
Following the photoshoot, I will carefully hand edit your images in my signature style. My edit is warm, natural, and flattering, with a focus on details and contrast to create timeless photographs with a modern feel. I lightly retouch newborn images, gently removing any temporary flaky skin while preserving the unique features and delicate details that make your baby special.

I’ll begin by focusing on your baby alone, capturing some beautiful detail shots. Then, we’ll move on to photographing you and your family together. Anyone you'd like to include is welcome - even pets! As long as you're comfortable having them close to your baby, they can be part of the session. If you're unsure, we can keep them at a distance while still incorporating them into the shoot.
If you have an older sibling who’d like to be involved, I’m more then happy to add on a little mini shoot with them. There's no extra charge for this, we can take a little time while you’re settling or feeding your newborn. If they have lots of energy to burn, we can even head outside to the garden for some fun, more relaxed shots. By giving them a little photo time, it should help them to feel special and included, while giving you some beautiful portraits to frame alongside your newborn.
If you're interested in more of a family photoshoot, with the majority/all of the session taking place outdoors, click here for more details.

"We are absolutely blown away with the newborn photos Lucy captured of our daughter and us as a family. They are even better than we could ever imagine. Despite having never met before, it felt like catching up with a friend and somehow came out with the most incredible shots! Lucy also turned the pictures around so quickly for us. What a talented photographer - we will be recommending her to everyone!'
Where do we start!? We were lucky enough to have Lucy photograph not only our wedding day in 2022, but also our newborn baby this year. Both times she was so personable and friendly. She took the time to understand and get to know us, making us feel completely relaxed. We are absolutely over the moon with how the photographs turned out and will treasure them forever! They really do capture such special times in our lives perfectly. We couldn't recommend her more!
Newborn sessions usually last between 1 and 2 hours, to allow ample time for feeding, changing, and settling. To capture the best photos, it’s important that your baby feels calm and relaxed, which is why we never rush. We’ll start by prioritising helping them drift off to sleep, ensuring they’re content. If they need a feed or break at any point, there’s always time for this.
For newborn sessions, I recommend getting in touch 2-3 months before your due date and we will pencil in a tentative date. Once your baby arrives, you’ll just need to reach out so we can book the final date and time. Newborn sessions often work best at around 3 - 14 days as your baby is likely very sleepy. This allows me to comfortably capture them in those popular dreamy sleepy poses.
I aim to deliver at least 50 beautifully edited images, in both colour and black & white. You and anyone you choose to share your gallery with will have full download access. There is a shop attached to your gallery where you can purchase professional quality prints. Of course, you can download and print your photos as you choose, but I do recommend professional printers to ensure the quality and colours are correct.
If you are happy for me to do so, your baby will be wrapped in soft blankets for the majority of the session. You're welcome to include any special clothing/items you would like too. For family members, I recommend keeping clothing simple. Neutral light colours (white, cream, beige or pastel tones) work best or delicate patterns, as they don’t take away from the natural beauty of your baby. I have more information about what works well in my session guide.
Please don't feel the need to clean the entire house! If you have any floor-to-ceiling windows, such as patio doors, bi-folds, or spacious bedroom windows, I’ll likely position myself there for most of the session to take advantage of the natural light. It can also be lovely to use a family space, like the living room or master bedroom, but my main priority is finding the best natural light. If you’re happy for me to, I’ll take a quick look at the available spaces when I arrive.
Newborns are unpredictable and that’s ok! It’s usually a good idea to try to feed your baby before the session, so they’re sleepy and content. You are welcome to do this once I have arrived and am setting up too.
If you need to break to feed, change or just have a cuddle, that’s absolutely fine. These moments can also create lovely photos if you would like the documented too.
