Summer Marquee Wedding – Floral Inspiration

the one where the wedding florist gets married... Kirsty, owner of Fall into Flowers, married Jack in their local church in Hertfordshire, followed by a beautiful flower filled marquee reception at their family home.

It’s always an honour when couples put their trust in me to photograph their wedding day, but there’s an added layer of flattery (and an extra touch of nerves) when someone from within the industry pays me such a compliment. Kirsty is the very talented founder of ‘Fall into Flowers’, specializing in floristry for luxury weddings and events. I first met Kirsty when working on another wedding together and the flowers were so unique and stunning. Of course, I jumped at the opportunity to be her wedding photographer. It was the most beautiful summer marquee wedding – absolutely filled to the brim with flowers!

PREPARATIONS

While Jack got ready at his family home ‘The Hoo’ in Hertfordshire and oversaw the final touches to the reception marquee, Kirsty’s preparations were at The Drover’s in Oxfordshire. The Drover’s gorgeous house and gardens were the perfect setting for a relaxed pre-wedding atmosphere with Kirsty’s close family and bridesmaids.

Kirsty wore Josephine Scott’s beautiful ‘Constance’ wedding dress. The delicate floral print, soft organza silk and statement back bow suited the vibe of the day perfectly. Kirsty was actually the first ‘real bride’ to wear one of Josephine Scott’s creations and it couldn’t have been more perfect for her. The dress was purchased from and expertly altered by Carina Baverstock and her team, based in Bath. Kirsty accessorized the dress with a beautiful handmade floral applique veil and family heirloom earrings. Jack wore a traditional grey and black tailcoat suit, with a blush pink tie that matched the bridesmaid’s elegant chiffon sleeve dresses.

THE CEREMONY

Kirsty and Jack’s ceremony was held in Little Gaddesden’s Parish Church ‘The church of St Peter and St Paul’ in Hertfordshire. Both the exterior and the interior of the church were abundant with flowers. Kirsty opted for a vibrant array of seasonal and predominantly English flowers, creating a real burst of colour. Guests arrived to the sound of bagpipes, a little homage to Kirsty’s Scottish roots. Kirsty arrived in a Rolls Royce accompanied by her bridesmaids and father, who wore trousers in their family tartan. The highlight of their ceremony had to be Jack proudly saying ‘I DO’ before the vicar had even finished his sentence. This candid moment is one of my favourite photographs from the day!

FLOWER FILLED MARQUEE RECEPTION

Their marquee reception was held in a field within the grounds of ‘The Hoo’, Jack’s family home in rural Hertfordshire. I love a family home summer marquee wedding, in my experience, these weddings are often the most beautiful as couples have free reign to make every element unique to them. There is also such a wonderful sense of family – with so many special memories already having been made there. Guests were greeted by a showstopping floral arch, filled with hydrangea, peonies, delphiniums, fox gloves and roses. Outside the marquee, hay bales, festoon lighting and a firepit created a relaxed atmosphere for their drinks reception. Inside the marquee, Kirsty’s theme was simply “Florals everywhere – really we mean everywhere!”. She absolutely delivered.

THE PARTY

The wonderful London Soul Section band played throughout their drinks reception with a vocals and acoustic guitar duo. The full band then played for the evening reception. As the sun went down, I pulled Jack & Kirsty away for 5 minutes to create a little golden hour magic, before they joined the packed dancefloor for the rest of the night. Their evening was full of epic dance moves, encouraged by a lot of bubbles and Limoncello!

A note from the bride:

When asked to reflect on her day and pass on a little advice to future brides, Kirsty said: It is so important to, at some point during the day, step back with your new husband/wife and take a quiet moment to look at all the people who came to celebrate and be there with you both. There is so much love in this day and you must take a second to look at the amazing people in your life! For us the day was just about love, you really could feel it everywhere, it was electric!
